WELCOME to WANNA READ

Welcome Readers!

Just a quick introductory post. ;-)  My name is Latif and I'm your host here at Wanna Read, as well as a reader perhaps like yourself who enjoys a good read now and again.

Now I'm no high-brow English literary specialist or English teacher who's gonna make you do some homework. ;-)  In fact I'm pretty much your Average Joe as far as reading goes, heck I'm the type that enjoys those mass-produced trash novels you can buy at the supermarket.

But anyways.  I've found a WHOLE BUNCH of really good reading material that you can enjoy, written by some of the world's most creative authors.  Some of these pieces really just make me go 'WOW! This guy is AMAZING!'.

Hm.  See?  I can't write worth a crap either! ;-)  But heck we can both read and I hope you enjoy my comments and most of all the fine pieces of literature you'll find on this site.  I've tried to pick out stuff that can be read in a sitting or two, so you're not gonna find any WAR and PEACE here, sorry. ;-)

Alright!  Enough from me!  You can either scroll a bit up and browse the short stories by author, or read my blog entries below (or on the right hand column at top) and see if there's something that catches your interest.  GO READ NOW! ;)

Western tale by Stephen Crane, "The Blue Hotel"

Good day,

Just read and uploaded an interesting Western tale by Mr. Stephen Crane called "The Blue Hotel". Once again, really, I was just trying to get something formatted and put up on the web but putting in the paragraphs here and there I was again drawn in to reading the story.

This little Western story about the happenings in a small town in "Nebrasker" is a good read in itself, and perhaps has a moral to it at the end.

The message I got from it was how we are all collectively responsible for what happens in this world - good and bad - and that we each need to own up to and take responsibility for our own actions.

Read this story for yourself and see if you agree.

Two new stories by Mark Twain up - Hilarious!

Hello!

Alright, two more stories by the remarkable Mr. Twain have just been formatted and uploaded.

First is a "Ghost Story". What can I say, it's Scary Kids!

Next is a comtemplative man's discourse on "Political Economy" - or it would have been, if he wasn't constantly interrupted by a man selling lightning-rods.

Both stories are very good, my admiration for Mark Twain grows with every new story I read. I believe I will be picking up some books by this author to read on my own time, and I'll also search for more Twain material to put up on this website.

Really fantastic reading folks.  GO READ NOW! ;)

Interesting tale by Bram Stoker - "Dracula's Guest"

Heya,

Little piece by Bram Stoker just formatted and uploaded, a short story called "Dracula's Guest" which apparently was excised from the original Dracula novel.

I enjoyed the read, it's a good read in itself although perhaps some context or background was lacking.

Also let me play the literary critic here, I found the build-up of suspense really exciting but felt it was released much too quickly. On the other hand maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Read this piece and tell me what you think!

Wonderful wonderful story by Frances Hodgson Burnett - "Sara Crewe"

Good evening,

Well, I have to admit, I was simply trying to format and upload this piece of work without really reading it, but putting the indentations here and the paragraphs here I couldn't help but stop and read a few words.

I'm awfully glad I did.  This story called "Sara Crewe" or "What Happened at Miss Minchin's" is an amazing story about the trials of a strong-willed girl with a most vivid imagination.

This is one little story I guarantee you won't be able to stop reading until you get to the very last word.

Do yourself a favor, as I said this tale is really wonderful.

New Story up - The Secret Sharer - by Joseph Conrad

Good evening,

Ah, another very good read, this time a seaman's tale by Joseph Conrad called "The Secret Sharer".

As with other books I've read from this author, "The Secret Sharer" carries his unmistakable writing style. Dark, always on edge - and very mysterious.

Go read now! ;-)

Enjoy! ;-)

Disturbing Read! "A Modest Proposal" - by Jonathan Swift

Hiya!

HM! I don't quite know what to make of this article by Jonathan Swift.

The author's name sounds familiar to me but I've not read any of his other works. Therefore I'm not sure if his "Modest Proposal" to solve the problem of over-population in Ireland (in the 1700's) is tongue-in-cheek or not.

I'm inclined to believe it is. ;-)  But to be honest I'm really not sure!

Go on.  Please read it if you're the least bit curious about his most interesting proposal.

And after you're done, send me an e-mail and tell me what you think.  Meanwhile, I'm a little hungry, it's time for a bite to eat. ;-)

More stories by Mark Twain up

Yello,

Haha. OK! Three more stories by Mr. Twain have gone up, I just finished reading the last one, "NIAGARA", it gave me quite a chuckle. Although, I did not understand the punch line at the very end, if someone would like to fill me in on that (via e-mail) that might be cool.

The other two pieces were also quite funny :). I like this Twain fellow! The first is "The Great Revolution in Pitcairn", a tale about a bunch of islanders who throw off the yokes of English tyranny.

The second is a short story called "My Watch" which warns of the dangers of taking things in to be repaired.

I can relate to that last one, having recently paid $1100 to get my car fixed. Damn thing still didn't run after. :P

Little ditty from Mark Twain up - "Extracts from Adam's Diary"

Good day,

Haha, well funny little story from Mark Twain up. I couldn't make head or tail of it at first, until (DUH) realized he's talking about Adam of Adam and Eve. You know, Garden of Eden, snakes, forbidden fruit and that sort of thing.

Quite a funny read. ;-) POOR ADAM! Hope you enjoy!

New Story by Jack London up - To Build a Fire

Hey peeps,

Exciting arctic tale by Jack London just finished called "To Build a Fire". Yet another good read!

Only problem with it is, the paragraphs are LONG and blocky, and at the moment I don't know how to format it to make it more readable. Suggestions at my e-mail address are most welcome.

Uplifting speeches by great American leaders

Wow. I have just read, formatted and uploaded two amazing, uplifting speeches by two of America's finest sons.

The first - the Inaugural Speech of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy. If only all leader's of today shared his great vision.

The second - Martin Luther King Jr's speech at the Lincoln Memorial. INCREDIBLE! While reading I can hear this man's words shouting, reverbating through the hearts and minds of those people lucky enough to be listening.

What it must have been like to be there in the presence of these incredibly gifted orators. Thankfully their words have been preserved, and we can feel the impact of their words even today.
